THE NEW NPZ 2025 BROCHURE IS NOW AVAILABLE TO GROWERS AND THE TRADE ON REQUEST

The brochure contains full details of all NPZ’s winter oilseed rape, spring bean, combining pea and spring wheat varieties. These include market leading varieties, such as top of AHDB Recommended List Maverick winter oilseed rape, top of PGRO Descriptive Lists Pangea green pea and Midori marrowfat pea.

“This is more than just a comprehensive list of our varieties,” explains Michael Shuldham of NPZ UK. “It also contains a section that details ways to  get the best out of our varieties.

“Of course, our prime objective is to bring our varieties to growers. Then the important next step is to ensure the growing crop achieves its potential by meeting and overcoming the challenges faced during the growing season.

“Hence the second section of the brochure looks at key topics that need to be addressed. These are Late sowing, RlmS and phoma resistance, Light Leaf Spot, Clubroot and Verticillium.”

  • The oilseed rape sowing date has got earlier and earlier, but is this always the best option? Especially in the light of warmer winters.
  • RlmS is a new genetic trait in many NPZ UK innovative winter oilseed rape varieties and brings effective and sustainable resistance to stem canker/phoma.
  • Leaf Spot is second only to phoma as an important disease of winter oilseed rape. It is driven by weather conditions and its incidence varies by year – in a bad year it can cause serious losses.
  • Clubroot is a soil-borne disease that can remain in the soil for up to 15 years. A key to risk reduction is wider rotations of 6 to 8 years along with minimising transfer through field spread along with growing resistant varieties where clubroot is a risk.
  • Verticillium stem stripe has now been added to the Recommended List with varieties showing varying levels of resistance. Risk management includes wider rotations and optimised crop establishment.

“All these factors are examined in detail in the brochure with explanatory pictures and graphs,” adds Michael Shuldham. “The NPZ UK 2025 brochure is available by email to info@npz-uk.com with ‘brochure request‘ in the subject and your address in the body of the email.”
